    • Thirty years through vanadium chemistry

      2015, Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry
      Citation Excerpt :

Other examples of reactions of type a1 were the synthesis of serine and threonine (and allo-threonine), by reaction of VIVO(sal-Gly)(X) at pH ≈ 8 with formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, respectively, and of SerGly and ThrGly by reaction of VIVO(sal-GlyGly)(H2O) also with formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, respectively [121]. These aldol-type condensations do not proceed in the absence of metal and the mechanism probably involves oxazolidine-type complexes [122]. In another system, where [VIVO(sal-L-Trp)(H2O)] (7) (sal-L-Trp = N-salicylidene-l-tryptophanate) was prepared, from solutions of 7 in water–pyridine crystals of [Hpy+]4[C14H13N2+]2[V10O286 −] (8) was isolated and characterized by X-ray diffraction [123], clearly identifying 9 as one of the counter ions of the decavanadate moiety.
