Preparation and characterization of ZTA bioceramics with and without gradient in composition
2012, Journal of the European Ceramic SocietyCitation Excerpt :Chemical vapor infiltration processes require a high degree of outlay with regard to apparatus.10 The use of fluid precursors presents a simple alternative.11,12 Here the process can be controlled so that both homogeneous and graded components can be created, as could be shown from a range of material combinations.8,13–15
Incorporation of mullite as a bond phase into porous SiC by an infiltration technique
2012, Materials Science and Engineering: ACitation Excerpt :The infiltration process was used to incorporate mullite into pre-sintered porous alumina bodies to limit grain growth in alumina leading to successful synthesis of mullite–Al2O3 composite [5]. The potential of the infiltration technique for controlling the distribution of a second phase and evolution of a graded microstructure was realized in case of synthesis of ZrO2–Al2O3 particulate composite [6]. Colvin and Lange infiltrated partially densified alumina powder compacts with liquid precursors that introduced either mullite, fully stabilized ZrO2 or partially stabilized ZrO2 and ultimately densified the infiltrated bodies to produce two-phase composites with the intent to reduce residual surface stress and to increase the strength [7].
