Abstract

Glasses in the series 42.5Li2O: (57.5−x)B2O3:xLi2SO4 (0⩽x⩽20) have been prepared by conventional quenching technique. The glass transition temperature and electrical conductivity for these glasses have been studied. The amorphous matrix accepts Li2SO4 up to 15 mol% without devitrification. The enhancement in the conductivity with addition of Li2SO4 has been observed, which is due to the incorporation of Li2SO4 in the macromolecular network. A scheme for incorporation of Li2SO4 in the macromolecular network is proposed.

In the present study, an extended range of the phase diagram Li2O-Nb2O5-P2O5 was systematically investigated regarding the Li ion conductivity for the first time. Exemplarily, the glass 60Li2O-10Nb2O5-30P2O5 with high ionic conductivity and less tendency of crystallization was chosen to examine the influence of partial LiCl addition, because it is known for other glass systems that the incorporation of Li salts such as Li2SO4 [16] and LiCl [17,18] improves the Li-ion conductivity. The sintering of the milled glass is studied and discussed regarding the densification, crystallization, and lithium-ion conductivity.
