Reduced Midbrain Dopamine Neuron Number in the Adult Non-human Primate Brain after Fetal Radiation Exposure
2020, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Radiation is lethal to dividing cells (Sinclair and Morton, 1966), and at relatively low doses, radiation specifically impacts only dividing cells (Algan and Rakic, 1997). The SN is generated in the period E36-E43; the VTA is generated E38–E43 (Levitt and Rakic, 1982). Notably, exposure to x-irradiation in this study would have impacted only the early stages of neurogenesis in these areas (Table 1).
Imidazopyridine-based selective and multifunctional ligands of biological targets associated with psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases
2019, European Journal of Medicinal ChemistryAge-dependent differences on neurochemistry and behavior in rats raised with low and high levels of maternal care
2019, Behavioural Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :At young adulthood, the 5-HT concentration in our LLG rats was still higher by 23%. Once the development of other raphe nuclei has completed [12], the effects of the early HPA reprogramming could have spread over the rest of the 5-HTergic efferences increasing the neurotransmitter concentration by 28% and 38% in PFC and HPC, respectively. Maternal separation also increases 5 H T contents in PFC and NAcc at young and middle-age adulthood [14,18], suggesting that early life stress leads to enduring upregulation of the 5-HT system in several brain regions.
