Abstract

A new immunoglobulin A abnormality has been found in the serum of a child with hypogammaglobulinemia. The abnormal protein has a sedimentation coefficient of 5.2S and consists of two alpha chains covalently linked to J chain. No light chains could be detected in the protein. The abnormal protein, like the alpha chain disease proteins previously described, belongs to the A1 subclass and reacts with an antiserum specific for free alpha chains.
