Effects of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist administered in microparticles on sperm quality and quantity, and plasma sex steroid levels in northern pike
2022, AnimalCitation Excerpt :Northern pike produces a lower volume of sperm at the beginning and the end of the reproductive season with significantly higher levels midway in the spawning period (Bondarenko et al., 2018). Higher milt production was reported in northern pike after a single injection of partially purified salmon gonadotropin as well as with crude CPE and fresh pike pituitary extract, whereas GnRHa alone did not increase milt production (Billard and Marcel, 1980). Administration of GnRHa in an implant significantly increased milt production in Atlantic cod Gadus morhua compared to controls irrespective of dose (Garber et al., 2009).
Effect of different treatment agents and post-treatment latency times on spermiation stimulation of northern pike (Esox lucius) under controlled conditions
2020, TheriogenologyCitation Excerpt :It was confirmed that CPH is more effective in the stimulation of ovulation in northern pike in comparison to two superactive gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues (GnRHa), that is, mammalian ([D-Ala6, Pro9NEt]-mGnRH) (Ovopel) or salmon ([D-Arg6, Pro9NEt]-sGnRH) (Ovaprim), which were administrated alone or together with one of the dopamine receptor antagonists (DRAs), that is, pimozide, domperidone, or metoclopramide, in different combinations and doses [10]. It was also confirmed that GnRHa treatments did not induce spermiation of northern pike, as noted by Billard and Marcel [4]. In contrast, our latest research indicated that both CPH and complex of [(D-Arg6, Pro9NET)-sGnRH] with the addition of a DRA, that is, domperidone (Ovaprim), are effective in stimulation of northern pike spermiation under controlled conditions [13].
Study of the effects of thermal regime and alternative hormonal treatments on the reproductive performance of European eel males (Anguilla anguilla) during induced sexual maturation
2012, AquacultureCitation Excerpt :Regarding procedural factors, both the type and dosage of hormone used are key factors in the artificial maturation of aquaculture species. Hormonal methods have evolved over time, from the use of pituitaries from mature fish to the use of various synthetic agonists of different hormones (Billard and Marcel, 1980; Rosenfeld et al., 2012; Yaron, 1995). Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) has been the hormone most widely used in the maturation and spermiation process in the European eel.
