A measure of family functioning and its application

Abstract

Most systematic measures describing families deal with structural aspects of the family unit. In contrast, this paper describes a measure of family functioning, intended to assess the strength of relationships and life style taken as a whole. The content of the index, its reliability and validity are described, and several applications are discussed.
