Is Methylprednisolone Acetate-Related Insulin Resistance Preventable in Cats?
2022, Topics in Companion Animal MedicineCitation Excerpt :According to owners’ reports, 17.8% (5/28) of patients presented occasional sneezing during the MPA´s effect period. Although cats are considered to be resistant to various side effects of glucocorticoids11 especially because in general, they have approximately 50% fewer glucocorticoid receptor cells in the skin and liver as compared to humans and dogs,30 these drugs are considered a risk factor for insulin resistance and DM development.2,6 The increase in insulin secretion in all groups at T15 was accompanied by higher serum glucose, triglycerides, and cholesterol values at this time studied.
