Abstract

Trivalent tungstates and molybdates of the type L2(MO4)3 have been further investigated and a number of new phases are reported. Tungstate-molybdate phase diagrams for La, Sm, Gd, Ho, and In, including lattice parameters of the pseudoscheelite subcells where applicable, were studied and gave insight into structural relationships. It was found that the more than eight structures occurring can be organized into three families of structures.

These Raman scattering spectra also demonstrate the formation of β′-Gd2(MoO4)3 crystals for the crystallized samples in 21Gd2O3-63MoO3-(16-x)B2O3-xTeO2 glasses [10,12]. In the ferroelastic state of β′-Gd2(MoO4)3 crystal [18–22], spontaneous strains are present within crystals. The Curie temperature of Gd2(MoO4)3 crystals in the phase transition from the ferroelastic state (β′-Gd2(MoO4)3) with an optically birefringence property (na = nb = 1.85 and nc = 1.90) [19,23] to the paraelastic state (β-Gd2(MoO4)3) with an optically uniaxial property is Tc = 163 °C [20].
