Between electoral and urban geography: Voting patterns and socio-spatial dynamics in Tel Aviv
2015, Applied GeographyCitation Excerpt :Two spatial scales have been subject to investigation: regional and metropolitan. Studies of inter-regional differences resulted in shorthand electoral geography: North-South Divide (Labor vs. Conservatives) in Britain (Johnston & Pattie, 1989; Johnston, Pattie, & Allsopp, 1988) and the Red and Blue America (Republicans vs. Democrats) (Morrill, Knopp, & Brown, 2007; Shelley, Archer, Davidson, & Brunn, 1996). On the metropolitan scale it was found that inner-city residents have a greater tendency to vote for left-wing parties and suburbanites incline to vote for parties on the right of the political spectrum (Cox, 1968; Gainsborough, 2005; Greer & Greer, 1976; Maeschalck, 2011; Walks, 2004; 2005; 2013).
