Mandelbrot et al. [5] developed the “Island Slit” method by searching for correlations between fractal dimensions and well-known physical quantities of fracture mechanics. Following this pioneering work, other authors also made theoretical and geometrical considerations with a similar purpose [6–14], as described briefly below. Family and Vicsek [20] and Barabási and Stanley [21] showed a fractal scaling model for rugged surfaces formed in ballistic deposition films.

The fractal geometry technology, an effective mathematical tool in solving irregular geometrical morphology, could be used to analyze the microcrack networks. Recently, fractal geometry technology has been successfully used in many fracture researches, such as crack identification and detection, cracks image analysis and fracture phenomena description [24–28]. Due to the relative convenience of mathematical calculation and empirical estimation, the box-counting method is one of the most widely used the fractal method.
