2002, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :This study showed that NF-labeled cell somata in the GCL (in vivo and in vitro) demonstrated immunoreactivity for both constitutive NOS isoforms. These results mean that RGCs have NOS proteins because NF is thought to be a specific marker for RGCs [15,47]. Furthermore, their identity was confirmed by in vitro experiments showing that NOS-positive cells were immunoreactive to Thy-1.1, which shows that they are ganglionic in nature, since Thy-1.1 expression is restricted to ganglion cells only in rat retina during pre- and postnatal development [3].
