Silica binding and toxicity in alveolar macrophages
2008, Free Radical Biology and MedicineCitation Excerpt :One study found three- to sevenfold increases in PL and SP, respectively, occurring in a rat model with acid-washed silica, but not with unwashed silica [15]. Another study found sustained elevations (in weeks) in PL and SP-A in response to silica [16]. Several other studies found silica-induced increases in PL and SP [17,18], including specific increases in SP-A [19,20], SP-D [19,21], vitamin E [22], and phosphatidyl inositol [23].
Tacrolimus (FK506) has protective actions against murine bleomycin-induced acute lung injuries
2005, European Journal of PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :In this study, we showed that tacrolimus significantly improved survival rate in a bleomycin-evoked acute lung injury model, while treatment with dexamethasone failed. Some reports have shown that dexamethasone treatment significantly inhibits lung injury induced by several kinds of toxins including bleomycin (Grunze et al., 1988; Viviano et al., 1995), while other did not inhibit lung injury (Khalil et al., 1993). One possible explanation for this discrepancy may be that the dose of dexamethasone used in this study was not high enough to observe such a beneficial effect.
Increased Surfactant Protein-A Levels in Patients with Newly Diagnosed Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
2004, ChestCitation Excerpt :However, it is not clear how these proteins enter the blood and whether they have any function there. It should also be noted that SP-A levels in the lung are increased fairly rapidly after the administration of bleomycin in a rodent model of bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis.39 The basis for the different SP-A results among studies is not clear.
