Another factor that may contribute to this difference in the relative intensities of the two components is that 6-MSL may possibly also react with primary amines (N-terminal, lysine, arginine) [35], for which the W component will predominate in the EPR signal. The fact that the relative intensity of the S component peaks decreases further with the surfactant and MIL treatments indicates that these molecules are able to induce structural changes in the proteins that stabilize the more solvent-exposed conformations [15,22].
