Previous studies on the effects of marathon running were significantly limited by single steroid hormone measurements due to the small volume of blood samples available [7,8]. Therefore, the comprehensive steroid hormone response at the extreme physical- and psychological stress, such as marathon, has not been thoroughly investigated.
