2024, Materials Science and Engineering: AImprovement of low-cycle fatigue resistance in AISI 4140 steel by annealing treatment
2019, International Journal of FatigueCitation Excerpt :The initial cyclic hardening possibly results from the multiplication and interactions of dislocations in the initial microstructure [1–5]. Furthermore, the gradual dislocation rearrangement and the decrease in dislocation density are thought to cause cyclic softening after a few cycles of cyclic hardening [2,4,6–8,11]. Based on the brief literature above, HSLA steels with either ferrite-martensite or ferrite-bainite phases tend to experience different characteristics in terms of stress responses during strain-fatigue loading, depending on the applied strain amplitude.
Low-cycle fatigue behaviour and microstructural evolution of pearlitic and bainitic steels
2019, Materials Science and Engineering: ACitation Excerpt :The stored energy in the material for the various phases composing steel containing 0.2% C is approximately 70 J mol−1 for ferrite and cementite, 785 J mol−1 for bainite, and 1214 J mol−1 for martensite [33]. Thus, this energy can be the driving force for the release of blocked dislocations and the creation of a fatigued substructure, leading to the reduction of stress [34,35]. In comparison, the cyclic stress amplitudes of bainitic steel are always higher than those of the pearlitic sample, at any given strain amplitude.
