Case Report
A 35-year-old male patient was referred to the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Meenakshi Ammal Dental College. He presented with a severe spontaneous pain in the maxillary right area. The medical history was noncontributory. Clinical examination revealed an amalgam filling with secondary caries in the maxillary right first and second molars (#2 and #3). The teeth were not tender to percussion and showed no signs of periodontal inflammation. Vitality tests of the involved
Discussion
It is extremely important that clinicians use all the armamentarium at their disposal to locate and treat the entire root canal system.19 Conventional radiographs, surgical operating microscope, and computerized transverse axial scanning are some of the useful diagnostic aids in endodontics. The main disadvantage with a conventional film-based radiograph is that it is only a 2-dimensional image of a 3-dimensional object, resulting in superimposition of images. Existing newer diagnostic methods
Conclusion
This case report presents endodontic management of a maxillary second molar with 5 roots and 5 canals. It also demonstrates the usefulness of CBCT in the understanding of complex root canal anatomy and its potential use as an endodontic diagnosis tool.

Five-rooted permanent maxillary second molar: CBCT findings of an extremely rare anatomical variant
2019, Radiology Case ReportsCitation Excerpt :The present report describes the first case in which the occurrence of 5-rooted MSM has been observed in a white European (Italian) subject. In a literature search of the PubMed database, we identified only 2 other case reports (published in 2010 and 2017) in which a human subject had a 5-rooted MSM [7,8]. In both cases, the patients were of Asian (Indian) origin [7,8].
