Abstract

This paper presents methods for approximating circular arcs using quintic polynomial curves. Different boundary conditions are considered in the approximation methods, thus resulting approximation curves with G2, G3, or G4 continuities at the circular arc's ends. The resulting approximation radial errors are generally very small and converge at the eighth or tenth power of the circular arc's angular span.
