HIV-1 incidence trends are sensitive to case ascertainment, prevalence, migration, mortality, and completeness of follow-up.4,15 This was an open cohort in which people moved freely both into and out of the group, but the demographic distribution of the population was largely unchanged during the study, and we did not find a group of consistent non-responders from our comparison of cross-sectional and imputed data.
