Abstract

The chapter describes the prevalence of nanotechnology as the most promising platform for pharmaceutical drug delivery. Its theme is to highlight the basics of nanoemulsion, its fantastic characteristics, and its remarkable acceptance in pharmaceutical sector. Section 1 starts with introductory details of nanoemulsion followed by its physical properties and pros–cons of nanoemulsion. It also focuses on the misconceptions regarding two colloidal systems: nanoemulsion and microemulsion. Section 2 is mainly about application and usefulness of nanoemulsion directly or indirectly in major drug administration routes. It puts emphasis on the use of nanoemulsion as a drug delivery tool in major routes of administration. The last section describes the published literature starting from the early 21st century undertaken by eminent researchers globally to date. It briefly highlights the achievements of research related to nanoemulsion, indicating the success of nanoemulsion as valuable nanostructure platform for pharmaceutical drug delivery.
