2021, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :The auditory N100m, which is evoked waves occurring with a post-stimulus latency of approximately 100 ms, is a response mainly generated from the primary and secondary auditory cortices located in the superior temporal gyrus (STG) in the Heschl’s gyrus and the planum temporale (Hari et al., 1980; Kanno et al., 1996, 2000; Näätänen and Picton, 1987; Nakasato et al., 1995, 1997; Pantev et al., 1986, 1990; Reite et al., 1994).

The M100 is considered to be the most prominent response in the auditory system in adults and is generated in or near Heschl's gyrus (Reite et al., 1994) and the planum temporale (Hanlon et al., 2005; Teale et al., 1998) of the superior temporal gyrus (STG). Some studies have shown changes in anterior–posterior M100 source asymmetry in individuals with schizophrenia (Rojas et al., 2007) and bipolar disorder (Wang et al., 2014).
