Microbiota and metabolites in rheumatic diseases
2020, Autoimmunity ReviewsCitation Excerpt :Dietary provision of TMAO can promote atherosclerosis and thrombosis in mouse models [160–162]. TMAO has been positively linked to the pathogenesis of several other diseases as well, including chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity in a tissue- and cell-specific pattern [163–167]. Hypothetically, TMAO is proposed to signal through an unidentified “receptor” to drive a signaling cascade that promotes cardiovascular disease [160].
