2021, Toxicology and Applied PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) reviewed the literature of rosemary, carnosol and carnosic acid and reported that the highest among the 90-day studies was 64 mg/kg/day expressed as a combination of carnosol and carnosic acid (World Health Organization, 2017). Intraperitoneal administration of carnosol at 200 mg/kg body weight in Sprague Dawley rats was well tolerated (Singletary et al., 1996). There is an isolated case of contact dermatitis in factory worker handling rosemary extract reacting has been reported (Hjorther et al., 1997).
