Phosphorus cycling in a subterranean estuary seepage face: A seasonal view on inventory composition and linkage with nitrate transformations
2024, Science of the Total EnvironmentVariability and controls of the ocean acidification metrics pH and pCO<inf>2</inf> in a large embayment of an Eastern Boundary Upwelling System (EBUS)
2023, Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf ScienceChanges in water column oxygen, estimates of productivity and the development of anoxia in a major embayment of the southern Benguela eastern boundary upwelling system
2022, Journal of Marine SystemsCitation Excerpt :These water samples were subsampled for analysis of the nutrient NO3−, chlorophyll a (Chl a) and the enumeration of phytoplankton. NO3− analyses were conducted after filtration through Whatman GF/F filters according to Nydahl (1976), scaled down to 5-ml samples. Chl a concentrations were determined by fluorometric analysis as detailed by Parsons et al. (1984), with correction for phaeopigments.
High-precision quadruple isotope dilution method for simultaneous determination of nitrite and nitrate in seawater by GCMS after derivatization with triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate
2014, Analytica Chimica ActaCitation Excerpt :These approaches cannot deliver specificity and sensitivity and can be significantly affected by the seawater matrix. Furthermore, direct colorimetric assays are available for nitrite, but not for nitrate, which is routinely determined as nitrite after heterogeneous-phase reduction [4]. Analytical chemistry approaches for nitrite and nitrate in seawater are, therefore, limited when high-precision is demanded, and mass spectrometry should be preferred.
Anomalous biogeochemical behavior of cadmium in subantarctic surface waters: Mechanistic constraints from cadmium isotopes
2012, Earth and Planetary Science LettersCitation Excerpt :Total Cd concentrations of unfiltered seawater samples were measured using the same techniques and were used together with the dissolved Cd observations to calculate particulate Cd concentrations (total Cd−dissolved Cd=particulate Cd). Nutrient concentrations were determined by autoanalyser, using a modified method of Downes (1978) for dissolved reactive phosphorus, the α-molybdosilicic acid method of Smith and Milne (1981), and the nitrate plus nitrite method of Nydahl (1976). In the following sections Cd isotope and concentration data will be presented for all eight stations.
