2021, HydrometallurgyCitation Excerpt :Because this half-cell cathodic reaction (Eq. (7)) consumes electrons, it competes with metal ion reduction (Eq. (3)) and suppresses the extent of cementation on Al. Previous electrochemical studies on the reaction rates of hydrogen evolution using different metal electrodes reported that the rate is mainly dependent on hydrogen overpotential, a parameter defined as the voltage required for hydrogen evolution on a given metal surface (Beyene et al., 2018; Ezaki et al., 1993; Hickling and Salt, 1940). Hydrogen evolution is sluggish when hydrogen overpotential is high but fast when the overpotential is low.
Facile fabrication of amorphous NiMo catalysts for alkaline hydrogen oxidation reaction
2021, Journal of Industrial and Engineering ChemistryCitation Excerpt :In contrast, Mo in Ni62Mo38 comprises 34.55% Mo metal, 25.17% MoO2, 11.61% Mo2O5, and 28.67% MoO3, exhibiting a high oxidation state. The electronic structure of reduced Ni in the Ni62Mo38 catalyst can be advantageous for the HOR activity as proton discharge can be promoted by excess electrons [79]. Although the optimal electronic structures or compositions of metallic/oxidized Ni for HOR are hard to be determined with absolute certainty, Pan et al. [34] reported that the best performance was achieved when the ratio of Ni metal and Ni(OH)2 was 1:1.1.
