Vortex in liquid films from concentrated surfactant solutions containing micelles and colloidal particles

2017, Advances in Colloid and Interface ScienceCitation Excerpt :A drop of particle suspension with a given volume and composition is put on the substrate and spreads over the substrate area encircled by a Teflon® ring pressed against the substrate, so as to avoid liquid leakage [331]. The circular hole can also be implemented in a paraffin block sealed to the substrate by melting [332]. In the implementations reported in [331,332], the substrate is transparent (e.g. a glass slide) and the system is mounted on the table of a microscope from below for in situ observation of the self-assembly process; in [332] the upper side of the cell is kept open, allowing water evaporation at constant temperature and humidity, while in [331] it is covered with a glass cover for illumination from above; in addition to process monitoring, the upper glass cover could be exploited to control the solvent evaporation rate by variation of the temperature.
Control of stain geometry by drop evaporation of surfactant containing dispersions
2015, Advances in Colloid and Interface ScienceCitation Excerpt :Mostly, striped patterns of particles are deposited when a suspension droplet dries on a solid substrate [6,121,126–135]. The three-phase contact line around the droplet shrinks toward the center of the droplet with an oscillatory motion [126], causing generation of a particle-array film at the contact line. Such shrinking motion of the droplet is termed as a “stick-slip” motion [127,128], but other drop motions which are different from the stick-slip motion were observed by some researchers [129–131].

2013, Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical EngineersCitation Excerpt :For example, Hu and Larson [5] have addressed that there is competition between the Marangoni effect and the coffee-ring effect. When using the colloidal solution, 2D colloid crystal can be fabricated after the solution evaporation [7–10]. If the wetting behavior between the solution and the substrate is properly regulated, various deposition patterns such as arrays [11,12] and lines [13–16] can be obtained.
