Baseline saliva level of 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycole (MHPG) associates with a consequent cognitive decline in non-demented elderly subjects. Three-years follow-up study
2012, Psychiatry ResearchCitation Excerpt :Saliva was collected using a Salivette (Sarstedt, Nümbrecht, Netherlands) between 13:00 and 16:00 h at Time A, when there is no diurnal change in sMHPG (Yajima et al., 2001). sMHPG was determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (QP-5000, Shimazu Scientific Construction, Kyoto, Japan), according to the method of Maas et al. (1976) with a slight modification. In short, 10 ng of 13C6-MHPG as an internal standard (IS) was added to 0.5 ml of saliva.
Yohimbine-induced withdrawal and anxiety symptoms in opioid-dependent patients
2002, Biological PsychiatryCitation Excerpt :Blood for determination of the norepinephrine metabolite, MHPG, and levels of cortisol (12 mL) was sampled five times during the test day via the intravenous line at 30 min before drug infusion and at the 40-, 60-, 120-, and 180-minute time points following the termination of drug infusion, for a total of 60 mL. Plasma MHPG levels were measured by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry using deuterated internal standards (Dekirmenjian and Maas 1974; Maas et al 1976). Samples for MHPG were assessed at the Neuropsychopharmacology center at the Connecticut Mental Health Center.
Plasma catecholamine metabolites in antidepressant-exacerbated mania and psychosis
2002, Journal of Affective DisordersCitation Excerpt :Patients had not received neuroleptic treatment during the admission process prior to blood sampling. HVA and MHPG were measured by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry using deuterated internal standards (Bacopoulos et al., 1978; Maas et al., 1976). For HVA, samples were extracted with ethylacetate after being saturated with NaCl and washed twice with hexane.
