Abstract
In summer 2021, six varieties of peony plants exhibiting severe leaf rolling and deformation, as well as severe plant dwarfism and mosaics were observed in Kyiv region of Ukraine. Using DAS-ELISA, these plants were tested for the presence of 12 viruses (bean yellow mosaic virus, cucumber mosaic virus, tobacco mosaic virus, alfalfa mosaic virus, tobacco ring spot virus, raspberry bushy dwarf virus, strawberry latent ringspot virus, raspberry ringspot virus, cherry leaf roll virus, tobacco rattle virus, tomato spotted wilt virus, and wheat dwarf virus). The DAS-ELISA tests showed the absence of the above viruses. Using TEM, filamentous viral particles of 1200 ± 50 × 12 nm were revealed in leaf sap of peony plants of the variety Zhemchuzhnyi Rozsyp with symptoms of dwarfism, leaf rolling and deformation. Using DAS-ELISA and real-time PCR, grapevine leaf roll-associated virus-3 (GLRaV-3) was detected in these plants. This is the first report of GLRaV-3 on peony plants in Ukraine and, to our knowledge, in the world.
