A Note on Jellyfish Crambionella orsini (Vanhoffen 1888) (Cnidaria: Scyphozoa) from Lakshadweep, Arabian Sea

Abstract

The scyphozoans are considered as one of the potential bio-indicator species of the coastal marine ecosystems. The genus Crambionella, belonging to the family Catostylidae, represents a total of four species globally. The jellyfish Crambionella orsini (Vanhöffen in Bibliotheca Zool 1:1–52, 1888) is mostly distributed to the western Indian Ocean. In this present study, this species is reported from Lakshadweep for the first time though it was reported from other parts of the Arabian Sea previously. This present paper deals with the morphological characteristics of C. orsini along with its global zoogeographical ranges.
