Current Developmental Disorders Reports Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

Purpose of Review

ADHD which is a complex neuropsychiatric disorder affecting cognitive and behavioral domains of the person affected has also been known to be associated with sleep problems as a comorbidity.

Recent Findings

Sleep disorders including sleep-disordered breathing, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, insomnia, and hypersomnia have been known to have an intertwined relationship. On the other hand, changes in sleep pattern have also been reported to affect the domains that are affected in ADHD. Medications used to treat ADHD have also been known to affect sleep in these patients.

Summary

This review article summarizes the complicated relationship that ADHD, sleep, and medications used to manage ADHD share. The cause and effect association should be assessed by clinical trials and animal studies to have a more clear picture.
