Scalar wave scattering by a circular cylinder on a planar substrate: a numerical simulation

Abstract

We calculated the scalar wave scattering by an infinitely long circular cylinder on or near a planar substrate. Our calculation is based on a rigorous theoretical solution. We present the angular distributions of the scattered and the transmitted waves due to the cylinder and those of the reflected and the transmitted waves due to the planar substrate. The numerical simulations show the importance of higher order multiple scattering when the cylinder is located close to the substrate. The simulation results are applicable to the general case because they are not restricted by the physical and the geometrical natures of the cylinder and the planar substrate.
