A Comparison on the EBSD and RO-XRD Techniques for Measuring Crystal Orientation of the Single-Crystal Ni-Based Superalloys

Abstract

Measuring crystal orientation of a single-crystal Ni-based superalloy was conducted by two techniques of electron-backscattered diffraction (EBSD) and rotating-orientation x-ray diffraction (RO-XRD). Several single-crystal specimens were fabricated by Bridgman method at different withdrawal velocities. The misorientation of the preferred crystal orientation with the solidification direction of all specimens was characterized. A good match between the EBSD and RO-XRD methods was observed. The results showed an increasing trend of crystal misorientation with increasing withdrawal velocity.
