Modern Seismology in China: Centennial Retrospect

  • Published:
Journal of the Geological Society of India

Abstract

For the silver jubilee of the Asian Seismological Commission (ASC) in which China participated actively, this article briefly reviews the history of modern seismology in China since 1921. Seen in a century perspective, it is shown that earthquake prediction as an important scientific agenda in the seismological science in China follows the ‘technical hyper cycle’, albeit with a longer time scale, and now is the stage of ‘plateau of productivity’.
