Bij patiënten die een CPAP-behandeling krijgen komt heldere rinorroe geregeld voor. In zeer zeldzame gevallen is de oorzaak een liquorlek. Deze diagnose moet men overwegen wanneer er sprake is van unilaterale rinorroe of een toename van de rinorroe bij de valsalvamanoeuvre of vooroverbuigen. Vanwege het risico op meningitis moet aanvullend onderzoek plaatsvinden. Liquorroe is eenvoudig te bevestigen door de vloeistof te testen op de aanwezigheid van bèta-2-transferrine. Deze test heeft een hoge sensitiviteit en specificiteit voor liquorroe. Niet ieder laboratorium kan testen op bèta-2-transferrine en het advies is om vooraf te overleggen met de klinisch chemicus.
