Résumé

La maladie d’Alzheimer rend mal aisés le diagnostic et l’évaluation de la douleur et modifie l’utilisation des principes généraux de l’éthique médicale. Dans ce contexte, on observe des tendances à négliger la douleur ou au contraire au surdosage médicamenteux. Il est cependant possible de tenir compte de l’état de conscience du patient et de ses préférences. Une méthode rigoureuse d’analyse et de discussion doit permettre d’éviter la cristallisation des conflits.

Abstract

Alzheimer’s disease renders a pain diagnosis and assessment difficult; it modifies the application of general medical ethics principles. In an Alzeihmer context, there is a propensity to ignore the pain or, on the contrary, to overdose medications. However, it is possible to take into account both levels of consciousness and the patient’s preferences. A rigorous analysis method and discussion are required to stop the conflictual debate on this issue.
