Abstract

On the basis of preparing the samples containing various single types of inclusions, the novel experiments using confocal laser scanning microscopy were designed to in situ observe the transient evolution of inclusions morphology and size during the modification process from Al2O3 and MgO–Al2O3 to low-melting point CaO–Al2O3–(MgO), in which the disaggregation of large-sized Al2O3 clusters by Ca treatment was detected for the first time, resulting in the reduce of inclusions size in melts.
