Intervention dargestellt.
Abstract
The article provides a state of the art overview on learning disabilities. Learning disabilities are identified as “specific developmental disorders of scholastic skills” by the classification system used in clinical practice issued by the World Health Organisation. This paper reviews current research findings of specific learning disorders from the view of child and adolescent psychiatry, psychology and special needs education. The reader will be familiarised with general definitions, core features and criteria for identifying specific developmental disorders of scholastic skills as well as with exclusions and estimates of prevalence. The current state of research on dyslexia, dyscalculia as well as mixed disorders of scholastic skills are summarized with regard to prevalence, causes, diagnosis and effective prevention and effective intervention (treatment).
