Morphology and Physicomechanical Properties of Modified Polyamides

  • Published:
Materials Science Aims and scope

We study the influence of high-molecular weight modifier, i.e., polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), on the morphology of polyamide-6. The data of instrumental investigation reveal changes in the degree of crystallinity and phase transitions in polyamide-6. Thus, in particular, the obtained materials have a degree of crystallinity higher by 5–7%. We study the physical and mechanical properties of the obtained mixtures. It is shown that the addition of PVP to polyamide contributes to an increase in relative elongation in tension and in the yield strength, as well as in the Vicat softening point. At the same time, we observe a weak decrease in the modulus of elasticity and surface hardness of the obtained materials, as well as an increase in the mechanical loss tangent.
