This is the third special issue of Journal of Solution Chemistry devoted to papers presented at symposia on liquids and fluid mixtures held at annual meetings of the North American Calorimetry Conference. The first of these special issues was based on papers presented at the 64th Calorimetry Conference held in Santa Fe, New Mexico (June 28 to July 2, 2009) and was published in the December 2010 issue of our journal. The second such issue was a Festschrift based on symposium held at the 68th Calorimetry Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey (August 18–22, 2013) in honor of Prof. Robert H. Wood on the occasion of his 80th birthday, and was published as the May 2015 issue of our journal. The current issue is based in part on papers presented at the symposium on Liquid Solutions and Fluid Mixtures held at the 70th Calorimetry Conference (CALCON 2015) in Baltimore Inner Harbor, Maryland (July 12–16, 2015).

The North American Calorimetry Conference has been held annually since 1946, and may well be the longest running annual conference devoted to thermodynamics. The Conference Chair for CALCON 2015 was Watson Loh (University of Campinas), the Program Chair David P. Remeta (Rutgers University), and the Arrangements Chair Conceição Minetti (also Rutgers University).

Symposia held at this Calorimetry Conference covered a variety of topics, the titles of these symposia and the corresponding chairpersons are: Sixtieth Anniversary Hugh M. Huffman Memorial Celebration (Conceição Minetti, David P. Remeta), Biomolecular Structure, Function and Stability (Conceição Minetti), Macromolecular Association and Recognition (David P. Remeta), Nanotechnology: Microfluidics and Interfacial Characterization (Watson Loh), Low Temperature Specific Heat Capacity Studies (Gregory R. Stewart), Liquid Solutions and Fluid Mixtures (Joseph A. Rard, W. Earle Waghorne), Databases, Global Analysis, Modeling and Simulations (Kenneth Kroenlein), and Specialized Applications of Calorimetry and Thermal Analysis (Carlos A. Montanari).

The highest award given by the Calorimetry Conference is the Hugh M. Huffman award named after a founding member of this conference. Inasmuch as this is the 60th anniversary of this award, previous winners of this important award were invited to attend this conference and several presented plenary lectures.
