Abstract
Jacques Vicens perceived a special relationship between painting and chemistry, especially supramolecular chemistry based on calixarenes, and integrated both to construct sophisticated molecules with exceptional properties. In honor of his remarkable life, this article is a survey of his way of thinking and his approach to chemistry.
