Abstract
A possibility of direct measurement of the magnetocaloric effect of the TbAl2 intermetallic compound displaying large magnetocaloric effect has been explored, using the commercial Quantum Design PPMS 14 facility. The adiabatic demagnetization process has been started at 93 K and the temperature of the sample has been observed to decrease by 3 K while demagnetizing from 5 T down to 0.1 T. Good agreement between the measured and evaluated cooling effect has been achieved, the latter one based on the measured specific-heat-capacity data in the temperature range 2-300 K in zero field and at 5 T.
