Method for Determining and Transmitting Data on Radioactive Contamination of the Sea-Bottom in Deep-Water Areas

  • Published:
Atomic Energy Aims and scope

The results of an investigation of an automated control and information transmission system by an underwater radio-controlled unmanned vehicle conducting radiation monitoring of the sea bottom in deep-water areas greater than 10 m are presented. The control is performed by a standard method using spectrometric, dosimetric equipment and an echo sounder located on the underwater vehicle. The construction of a communication channel with an operator located on shore is accomplished in two ways: in the water by transmitting information by means of ultrasound to a buffer device floating on the surface of the water area and in the atmosphere via a radio channel by relaying from the buffer device to the operator’s workstation on shore. Control of the underwater vehicle is accomplished in the reverse order.
