Abstract
Nowadays, there is ample evidence to show that intrauterine development influences adult health. However, a simple anamnestic parameter, the birth weight, is so far an insufficiently acclaimed predictor for cardiovascular disease and should always be asked in order to supplement the other classical cardiovascular risk factors. Special preventive measures for children with low birth weight should be encouraged.
