Abstract
In preventing a pulmonary embolus in cases with deep venous thrombosis, anticoagulation is the method of choice. Vena cava filters are increasingly implanted especially in the USA for a wide variety of indications. The evidence backing such applications is unfortunately low. This review tries to illustrate the current literature concerning possible indications.
