ASMET was pleased to invite more than 100 participants to the10th International Tooling Conference “Tool2016” in Bratislava, Slovakia, from 04th to 07th October 2016. The conference was organized by the Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials, VDEh, Jernkontoret, and the International Federation for Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering in Slovakia for the first time.

The scientific program of the conference included, apart from the traditional areas, also the ‘Future of Tool Materials’.

“Tool 2016” fostered the exchange of ideas and created a stimulating environment, in which colleagues from many different countries met each other. The scientific program included a plenary session, invited and contributed lectures from world-leading international scientists from universities and industry.

The authors who contributed to the proceedings of the conference are gratefully acknowledged. The book of proceedings can be ordered from ASMET. Please contact Ms Baumgartner (melanie.baumgartner@asmet.at) for the proceedings.

Among all these contributions, five papers have been selected for publication in this issue of the BHM:

  • Bruno Buchmayr: Damage, Lifetime, and Repair of Forging Dies,

  • Miloslav Ognianov: Influence of the Cooling Rate on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties in 5% Cr Martensitic Steel,

  • Till Schneiders: THERMODUR E 40 K SUPERCLEAN,

  • Alexander Walzl: Topologieoptimierung – Entwicklungswerkzeug für die additive Fertigung,

  • Anna Medvedeva: A New Cold Work PM-Grade Combining High Wear Resistance with High Ductility.

Special thanks go to the members of the organizing committee, the members of the scientific committee, and the chairmen of “Tool2016”. The successful realization of the conference would not have been possible without their help.

We would also like to thank the Slovak Academy of Science, Dr. Fero Simancik and his colleagues, who contributed to the local organization of the conference.
