Abstract
The case of a 17-year-old girl with severe pruritus and increasing icterus is described. After extensive diagnostic work-up a benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis (BRIC) type II was diagnosed. In this case a homozygous mutation in the bile salt export pump (BSEP) gene was identified as the cause, which is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. The intake of an oral contraceptive is discussed as the trigger factor.
