Reward Magnitude Shifts in Turtles (Pseudemys Scripta Elegans)

Abstract

Turtles were trained with a large or small magnitude of reward in a staight-alley runway. After 17 days of training with a given reward magnitude, half of the turtles in each group were shifted to the other magnitude of reward. Downward shifted turtles did not increase their running times. Upward shifted turtles decreased their running times. An explanation for failure to obtain downward shifts is presented.
