Abstract
A new evaluation of the taxa ofLenticulina (Lenticulina) quenstedti (Gümbel 1862) andLenticulina (Lenticulina) polonica (Wiśniowski 1890) from the Middle and Upper Jurassic of Europe and abroad. Former material collected from localities in Germany and abroad as well as new samples, withL. polonica, from the type locality in Poland have made these examinations possible. This study shows thatL. polonica is synonymous withL. quenstedti.
If researchers need the restoration of the species nameL. polonica, a neotype including definition and illustration has been erected from samples close to the Polish type locality and type horizon for a local existing specimen with new shell features.
Phylogenetic and biostratigraphic considerations concerning the evolution of Lenticulinae with ‘annular’ umbilical regions occurring between the Lower Toarcian and Tithonian are discussed.
