Abstract

The trans-sphenoidal approach to the sella, being a neurosurgical procedure, has suffered inadvertently from neglect of its rhinological implications. With the increasing realization of the necessity of a microsurgical rhinologist on the operating team, nasal morbidity is being dramatically reduced. We present our experience on an evaluation of 23 patients, operated by the trans-ethmoidal trans-septal (combined Bateman’s approach) for pituitary adenoma by the rhinoneuro-surgical team.

The combined trans-septal trans-ethmoidal route to the sella, in the hands of a competent rhinologist, has yielded satisfactory clinical results with minimal rhinological morbidity.
