Abstract

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique were conducted to identify the phytoplasma disease of sugarcane in two different locations of the sugarcane plantations namely Sevanagala and Uda Walawe in Sri Lanka. The results revealed that the samples of diseased plants of the two plantations give the same Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) pattern with both restriction enzymes (Alul and Rsal) similar to Sugarcane White Leaf Disease (WLD). This is the first authentic confirmation of occurrence of WLD in Sri Lanka.
